Itaguaienses stand out in the innovation program in Southeast Porto

Ideias Geniais rewards the most creative initiatives for process improvement and sustainable development

In a movement that highlights the importance of innovation in the corporate environment, Porto Sudeste encourages the creativity of its professionals with the Genius Ideas Program. The initiative recognizes projects that contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, products or services provided, thus promoting a culture of innovation.

In 2024, the program had more than 2,000 projects enrolled, including the installation of an inclusive garden in schools of the municipal network of Itaguaí, a champion project in the SER category, focused on ESG. “Porto Sudeste already had the Garden Program in 2019, but it was not designed for the PCD public. Considering that about 24% of the Brazilian population has some kind of disability, it was necessary to adapt the model to this reality”, says Paula Lima, a resident of Itaguaí and analyst of Social Responsibility at the terminal.

Last year, about 800 seedlings were planted at the Severina Ramos Municipal School. Meetings are held two times a week for the teaching of environmental education and vegetable garden management. According to the teachers, the initiative was well received by more than 60 students with disabilities, who engaged in the proposed activities.

Born and raised in Itaguaí, the analyst of Port Operations Luiz Eleoterio is part of the team that was first in the category of Governance. The winning project concentrated communication on a single channel, avoiding interaction failures between departments and operational areas.

“We needed to send email to several people when we identified an error, which made it difficult to define the status of the process and made us more susceptible to communication problems,” recalls Luiz. “We have implemented a new flow, in which the professional can send a request to the responsible team, and they must approve it or pass it on. This Kaizen Solution gave us greater data security, in addition to recording the complete history of reports and how they were resolved”, says.

The “Ideias Geniais” Program is based on the Japanese Kaizen methodology (“change for the better” in free translation), which values small daily actions to great advances. The five best creative solutions are awarded in five categories: PAZ (safety at work), SER (social and environmental), PN10 (corporate goals), Careers (human and organizational development) and Governance (process automation and compliance with internal policies).

“Through the program, professionals are encouraged to create creative and transformative solutions for everyday issues, whether of low or high complexity. The people at the tip are ideal channels to identify bottlenecks and propose improvements. Having this culture of innovation is a fundamental part in the search for excellence and success of any business”, highlights Fabiano Medeiros, innovation manager and continuous improvement of Porto Sudeste.
