Porto Sudeste receives the Gold Seal of the Women’s Friendly Company

Recognition by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro attests to the company’s commitment to gender equity and female welfare

During the month of March, when the Women’s Month is celebrated worldwide, Porto Sudeste received the certification “Women’s Friendly Company”, a social seal that proves the movement of private companies in promoting various actions aimed at the female public. Granted by the State Secretariat for Women, the recognition is awarded annually to companies that contribute with actions and projects to promote and defend the rights of women in the State of Rio de Janeiro. This year, Porto Sudeste obtained the Gold Seal, meeting more than 90% of the criteria established by the institution.

For Carla Matos, manager of corporate affairs and social responsibility, women’s gender equity, safety and integrity should be the rule in any environment. According to the executive, it is up to companies to implement a zero-tolerance policy in relation to discrimination and violence against women and monitor its compliance.

“Businesses need to be a welcoming environment for women. Not only equal opportunities for growth and compatible wages are needed but also channels for reporting and counselling in cases of abuse”, says Carla.

In addition to the recognition of the Women’s Friendly Company certification for initiatives, Porto Sudeste signed a document with the Secretary of State for Women of Rio de Janeiro to reaffirm its compliance and appreciation for Brazilian legislation regarding hiring, protection and reception of women victims of domestic violence (Maria da Penha Law), the promotion of female participation at all hierarchical levels, access to the same conditions of remuneration, among others.

Extraordinary Women Project

One of the initiatives focused exclusively on women promoted by Porto Sudeste is the Extraordinary Women’s Project. Launched in 2024, its main objective is to promote women’s empowerment and facilitate the insertion of women into the labor market.

Periodically, company professionals come together to teach activities and workshops for residents of the region of Itaguaí, understanding the most relevant needs of participants. In its first edition, 115 women were covered and could enjoy 16 hours of training.

Extraordinary Women offers workshops on curriculum development, preparation for job interviews, professional skills development and lectures on health, well-being and employability. Mentorships are also conducted to assist in LinkedIn profile creation and career planning.

“The project facilitates the construction of a local women’s support network, in which women exchange experiences and help each other professionally and personally. In the 2024 edition, we focus on the employability of women in the community to increase the chances and opportunities for hiring, given that unemployment rates among women are usually higher,” says Carla.

And plans for 2025 continue at full steam. In February, representatives from Porto Sudeste and the Women’s Secretariat of Itaguaí met to strengthen the partnership with the municipality, aiming to further expand the scope of the project and create more opportunities for women in the region.
